2015 Doggie Extravaganza – May 8

It was a great night at Thunderbird for the first of nine 2015 Doggie Extravaganza events. For those of you who don't know, the Thunderbird event is played after the sun sets, under the lights; how good is your iron play in the dark? This makes a round a tad more challenging but still so much fun!

On this night the weather was perfect, the course was in excellent shape, the mosquitos stayed away and 13 happy slammers came out to play! The wrap up occurred in the clubhouse at Thunderbird where the service was outstanding and the cool beverages were flowing!

Thanks to all who came out and we'll see you on May 28th for our next event which will be held at MarchWood.

The 2014 Doggie Extravaganza – August 31

It was a perfect evening at MarchWood at the Marshes for the first Doggie Extravaganza for 2014 where 25 excited Slammers came out to compete for doggies. The Slammers were loosely grouped by division with similar level golfers. It is all about accurate irons and hybrid play and two putts and maybe a little luck. Land closest to the flag stick and putt out in two. Some of these guys and gals were good as witnessed by the closeness of some of the dogs!

We all enjoyed ourselves both on the course and at the 19th hole. Some Slammers stayed out on the course to take advantage of the sun and some wanted to play 18 holes. The 19th hole, along with the refreshments and wrap-up, featured a trio in the Jones lounge playing music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Doggies, food, drink and music made for a very nice way to spend a Thursday evening. Please do not hesitate to email your suggestions of improving the Doggie Extravaganza to malone@slammertour.com. Thanks for coming out!

All doggies were taken (27 bones each)

  • 2 won by GoTee (#3 at 12 inches and #6 at 4 ft)
  • 2 won by Pukey J (#7 at 17 ft and #8 at 18 ft)
  • 1 won by Gazzif (#1 at 10ft)
  • 1 won by Iron Maiden (#2 at 3ft)
  • 1 won by Cuba (#4 at 6ft)
  • 1 won by Gru (#5 at 3ft)
  • 1 won by Pepilipu (#9 at 5ft)

Stars

  1. GoTee take first star as he takes home 54 bones (2 dogs at an average distance of 2.5 ft). He's the Doggie leader on the Slammer Tour, so far this season, and now the Doggie leader in the Doggie Extravaganza.
  2. Second star goes to Pukey J for his fine 54 bone performance (2 dogs) and for his sportsmanship gesture that GoTee should be first star since his doggies were so much closer.

Make-A-Wish, Eastern Ontario

  • The kids take home 16 bones from the event.

The Doggie Extravaganza #3 – August 30

WOW, 18 holes of fun at the 3rd Doggie Extravaganza at White Sands. Windy conditions were no match for the eight Slammers in the lineup, all shooting to make a doggie and/or a skin. Perfect time, right after work for a 5pm tee time to enjoy the extravaganza. We all enjoyed ourselves both on the course and at the 19th hole. When we made the turn we had to wait for 20 min and that put us behind. As a result we played the last hole in the dark. Too bad we did not have a photo master as there was a full moon over the 18th green trying to cast some light for us to play by. Thanks for coming out Slammers, and thanks to Mother for acting as Skin Master!

Only 17 doggies were taken (9 bones each)

  • 5 won by Chill
  • 5 won by Chef
  • 2 won by BearCat
  • 2 won by Bowler
  • 2 won by ProZee
  • 1 won by Irons

There were only 7 skins (5 bones each)

  • Chill had 3 (with 2 birdies and 1 par)
  • Irons had 2 (with 1 birdie and 1 par)
  • Chef had 1 (with a birdie)
  • Bowler had 1 (with a birdie)

Stars

  1. Chill take first star as she takes home 60 bones (5 dogs and 3 skins) and wins a Bud Light jacket.
  2. Chef has to settle for second star for his 50-bone performance (5 dog and 1 skin) . He takes home a Bud Light golf cap and a bag of tees.

Make-A-Wish, Eastern Ontario

  • The kids took home $12

The 2012 Doggie Extravaganza #2 – July 26
WOW, what a great time to have the 2nd  Doggie Extravaganza at White Sands. Perfect conditions and perfect weather with 10 Slammers in the lineup, all shooting to make a doggie and/or a skin. Perfect time, right after work for a 6pm tee time to enjoy the extravaganza. We all enjoyed ourselves both on the course and at the 19th hole. Five or six of the Slammers said “The last event needs to be 18 holes because nine-holes only whets your appetite”. Thanks for coming out Slammers, and thanks to IronMaiden for acting as Skin Master!

Following tradition and great service The Royal Oak Orleans, proud sponsor of Ottawa Sun Scramble Kick-Off Day, was the venue for the wrap-up, providing great prices on beverages, great service and great food. All EG members get 10% off of food for showing their EG card. The Royal Oak Orleans provided the nice Bud Light jacket as the first prize and KC kicked in the Bud Light golf cap and bag of tees for the second star. KidsClub also bought the first round to celebrate his hole-in-one. Doggie Extravaganza #3 is around the corner and maybe it will become an 18-hole event.

Register above and come out to play the final event at White Sands. Then join us at The Royal Oak, proud sponsor of Ottawa Sun Scramble Kick-Off Day.

Congratulations Chef and KidsClub!!

The Slammer Tour Doggie Extravaganza #3 – September 1, 2011
Another successful and fantastic Doggie Extravaganza event was held on the evening of Sept 1st at White Sands. This was the third event this year but it was the first time we played 18 holes. 8 Slammers were registered but due to the forgetfulness of DJD45, only seven Slammers enjoyed the festivities of the event. Since we played the same nine holes twice, the second time around the dogs were won with closer shots. This is a great event to work on your iron play! White Sands has to be the best nine-hole course in the city. With the great hospitality at the Royal Oak after the golf, this is one Slammer that can’t wait to play in these events next year.

Doggies

Again golfers were grouped by division so to provide competition within your division. All holes had doggies won with each worth 7.50 bones:

  • 5.5 won by Stymie
  • 4 won by Ticklar

The Slammer Tour Doggie Extravaganza #2 – July 28, 2011
Another successful and funtastic Doggie Extravaganza was held on the evening of July 28 at White Sands. 18 Slammers were registered but due to the forgetfulness of 2 Slammers (Gurmpy and IronMan)only 16 Slammers enjoyed the festivities of the event. There were lots of opportunities to test your irons to win doggies and skins as 7 holes are 150 yards or less from the whites. How good is your iron play? And White Sands double verticut and double rolled the greens in the morning to make the greens run close to a 10. White Sands has to be the best 9 hole course in the city.

Doggies

Again golfers were grouped by skill-level so to provide competition within the divisions. All holes had doggies won with each worth 35 bones:

  • 3 won by Ticklar
  • 2 won by ProZee
  • 2 won by BytownBlue

The Slammer Tour Doggie Extravaganza #1 – June 23, 2011
The first Doggie Extravaganza for 2011 was held on Thursday evening at White Sands with 10 Slammers participating. Rumour had it that lots of Slammers were hesitant to play due to the weather forecast but not a drop of rain happened while we were golfing. It was a great and very enjoyable first Doggie Extravaganza.

Grouping golfers by division provided competition with your peers. Seven of 9 holes had doggies claimed and each puppy was worth 28 bones:

  • 4 won by KidsClub
  • 2 won by Hacker
  • 1 won by BytownBlue

There were 4 skins: 3 by birdies (11 bones each)

  • IronMan (par)
  • ByTownBlue (birdie)
