Notables

  • A great big thank you to Lucky and Cuba for their assistance at making this year end event such a success. Lucky collected all of the bones and presented a colourful Culligan Doggie Report. Cuba was in charge of the Evolution Physio and Chiro Skins game. He entered all of the scores on his laptop and despite a couple of hiccups (including more interruptions than normal), he gave a report that included the whole field and not just the three skin winners.
  • Once again, there was a familiar person taking many pictures. Thank you pointZero.
  • The amount given to the kids from this event was supplemented by two Slammers for their contributions to the pot. One for interrupting the Skins Report about his missed birdie whine. The second culprit paid for his misbehaviour. Reminder to all to try to keep emotions in check, but when there is a slip in judgment, feel free to pay the kids.
  • Group 1 – each match was an upset. On hole #3, we all know that there is water to hit over on this par 3. Flagondry hits his tee shot, skips the lake, and lands safely on land. Then he makes the up and down for par.
  • Group 2 – With eight Slammettes in the field, The Enigma gets to be an honourary Slammette today.
  • Group 3 – With Skeeter (20 events) bailing early in the morning, this group’s total events played in 2013 was 9, before today.
  • Group 4 – Did everybody want to win? Did anybody want to win? All matches among three of them were still alive on the 18th hole. ProZee wins the crown
  • Group 5 – The Super Seniors (excluding those who were unofficial due to insufficient events played), had seven Slammers participate this final weekend and the most juggling.
  • Group 6 – Good to see the kids having much success. Nolanator improves his career record to 34-1-2 to win the Junior title. That only loss was to Hitch at this event last year. Youngest Slammer, Pickle walks away with a 76 bone skin and moved into 12th ranking with his upset of Dracula.
  • Group 7 – Weird statistics in this group. Aside from Champion Maiden going undefeated, Juice, ToothFairy, and chill did the circular winning / drawing
  • Group 8 – Many great scores, which don’t matter in Match Play, in this group of non qualifiers. Intruder and PizzaMan go undefeated, as there are two draws in this group.
  • Group 9 – The top ‘B’ ends up fourth. Rookie GoTee wins it all in his 51st event, the third most by any rookie.
  • Group 10 – The ‘C’ Division. Gator was #2 before yesterday and went 0-3 and missed the final four. It was strange having an important event without our Slammer who sets the frequency bar on the Tour. Eeyore was #1 before yesterday and still is #1 after today.
  • Group 11 – Some guy named McGoop went 3-0. It was his 47th straight win since his last defeat on July 3rd. We’d better get used to that name – see Group 6. He got to hold the Combat Cup for the group picture as the overall top ranked Slammer at year end.
  • Group 12 – The ‘D’ Division started on hole #17. Teeing off on their last hole, all three participants were within one hole of each other. Honourary D for a day – Cuba did play from the back tees. Pearls’ great drive produced a par and de-throned the 2012 winner.
  • Group 13 – Senior Champ Chilly. Not such a shock, playing in his 486th career event, we are pretty used to seeing him as a champion.

Quotables

  • “I want to challenge the highest ranked Slammer that I am allowed to.”
  • “I’ve been sitting at the 19th hole since 1:45 p.m. Where is everybody?”
  • “That’s not a quotable unless you’re Rob Ford.”
  • “Sip n a smoke!”
  • “You are over in Glen Mar.”
  • “Oh, Pearls!” “Oh, Cuuuuba!”
  • “Wait a minute! I have to get his driver out of the tree.” “Did you find any other drivers in that tree?”
  • “I’m eatin my Wheaties b*tches!”
  • “You don’t need a driving range. You need to run a putting facility.” Spoken to Luge, owner of Eaglewoods.
  • "Why was I chosen as a star?"... most often, we hear "why wasn't I?" by the way - the explanation is over there on the right.
Event: Canadian
Sun Nov 17, 2013
Summary
Gru qualified (rookie Gru plays in his 13th event since September 28th at the EG closer) for today’s event by upsetting Intruder yesterday. But there was no room at Canadian. Two Slammers bailed. Gru entered, as did The Enigma and another bailage by Skeeter. Fifty one Slammers partook today in the final event. Weather was warm enough for a couple of the faithful to play in shorts on November 17th (those same guys were seen in Prescott at the beginning of the season in shorts). The Canadian staff (led by Dale) were excellent once again. Lucky collected, jocularity aplenty, Chef and ZenGirl competed to see who would arrive last. The announcements were made, the orange duotangs dispensed, and off we went. Thirteen groups spread across seven holes. PizzaMan’s group started the furthest away on hole 5 and led the Tour on a great pace. Thank you Intruder, The Game and Luge for following pepperoni boy so well. If we were to look down this page, we would see 25 matches end on the 18th hole, and 12 others on the 17th. Thirteen of the matches ended in a draw. Match Play, alive and well in the NCR. See you all at The Slammies at Falcon Ridge on the 6th of December.

Stars
SunShine
As was mentioned at the event, SunShine qualified for two divisions. Friday, she decided to go for the Ladies C instead of the D division top rank. She chose to play the toughest opponent for her {historically speaking). How did she do? Well she would have won either division. along the way she defeated Jewel 7 and 6 - it was their rubber match. She then beat The Enigma 3 and 2, for the first time in her career. Final opponent was ZenGirl who she had a 1-9 career (and that one win was in Myrtle Beach). On their eighteenth hole (#4), her bogey was enough to win the race. Thank you Canadian, for supplying a hat for our first star. Not just any hat, she had the right to go in and exchange the one that I handed out. She chose one to match one of her outfits that earned her the 2011 Most Stylin' Slammer award.
Davestator
Many opinions of how the rules are for the final two events. #1 does not have to defend on Saturday, #2 does and the order can change. Bottom line is that the top four in each division get to vie for the top spot. Davestator was actually the 6th ranked Super Senior. However he was the fourth in the field. The Super Seniors were given the least distance to walk, for this shotgun. As you look up all of the other matches - it is wise to start on the actual hole, When doing these matches - no need - they started at one. First casualty was Rexall, after the 15th hole, bringing his career up to 2-3. One hole later, he shook hands with Bookie and improved to a 2-0 career vs the Librarian. Finally with their bogeys on 16, he won his inaugural match against the top SS. Brockville's own Potter would have to settle for #2.
Blue
Today's leader in the bones dept is Blue. The only Slammer to win more than one of the skins / dogs. Blue won one of the three skins and his doggy on #3 was the furthest dog of the day. That was a great two putt. He entered today's event as the #1 Senior and his tie with Lucky (they have had 6 of their 8 matches decided on the 18th) would have been enough, seeing as he took care of Pouf 2 and 1 to even their career at two wins a piece. The lone flaw was when he went down to the Senior champ, Chilly. Go to the bottom of the page (change their starting hole to 17) and see how it ended. Did I mention 141 bones?
