Notables

  • Pace of Play note for the day: Our time was a little slower than most would like, but for a shotgun, and a first event of the year for many, it was ALMOST acceptable. That being said, I would like to suggest to you all, that you don’t get TOO down on the group ahead of you, because as I walked around the course, I saw many groups having to wait, I never once thought anything negative about the group in front of us. They were keeping up to the ones ahead of them.
  • Thursday Birthday Boy, was supposed to be there to load the bus, but was last Slammer to arrive. Apparently he didnt get the updated version. Happy 23rd ShortStack!
  • Today's birthday boy is a little older than 23, We toasted him on the bus - but NOW YOU all know that Sunny is a year older.
  • MILESTONES today: PizzaMan becomes the ninth Slammer to reach 900 career points with his win over ShortStack today. Lucky is 31st to get to 400 points. Seeing as he beat both Primo and Sunny 3 and 2, it happened when he beat the first one.
  • We started off with seven groups. Then on the bus the threesome of ChooChoo, RayRay, and newcomer {what a Slammer he will BE! - a true fit - for sure) The Bishop were added, bringing today’s Slamming total to 31.
  • Culligan Doggy bones were worth 38 each. ChooChoo's late edition to the event, plus his forgetting to leave the doggy ball, eventually prevented Malone from winning two dogs today. Good thing that hole ten was the closest to the pin for ALL participants. ChooChoo had written his 25 inches on the sign, and it halved Malone's(can you say Kevin?) fifty incher.
  • What an excellent job doing the Evolution Physio skins report that Iron Maiden did. She brought the laptop, entered immediately, and VOILA! the system gives the winners to us and we can hand each one their 28 bones. Two of those skins went to Rulz and he was the BIG BONES winner of the day with 94
  • Excluding the four new matches (unr vs. unr), today’s results have 13 upsets. #11 ShortStack went down thrice and check over there to the right – you will see that the third star, brings the total to 4 new entries into the Ottawa Sun’s weekly listing of the top twenty {or is thirty? – nonetheless – check it out on Tuesday’s edition}.With 105 matches still to play down here – expect to see much movement. Those of you back home getting ready to play this weekend, be sure to check the stats page OFTEN!
  • This claim didn’t get in to the Commish on time and therefore, we will miss having an official ruling – that will live in eternity on this (our decisions) page: http://www.slammertour.com/slammertour-decisions.shtml .....So I will include it here to remind you all to go read this page and let’s remember that a claim made IS NOT personal. It is so that we can all learn to play accordingly. Here is the topic that I open up to you all to discuss. Holes 10 & 13, have the water protecting those par threes. Many of us know about the drop area (all four in my group today were wet on ten). When you don’t go in the water but DO go OB {on thirteen}, and therefore take your drop at point of entry, and when that shot goes in the water – can you go back to the drop zone? I am thinking that because the Slammer Tour rule says ‘no going back”, that you must take the drop there at point of entry. The guilty Slammer chose to go back to the drop area to hit his fifth shot. One of the things that I notice on tour {and I have played a few events}, is that when the outcome doesn’t matter – he lost the hole to the other three – we tend to ‘let it go”. I suggest that is wrong – because we not only don’t find out the right way, but we may mislead others. Thank you – and over to you.
  • Now I must go check to see if there was another claim made. I heard that there was going to be one – but haven't seen it yet – have you?
  • Reminder that if you think someone has broken a rule (either unintentionally or intentionally) the procedure is to announce that you will be filing a claim. This must be done after completion of the hole and before...

Quotables

  • "The new drinking age in New York has changed to 23."
  • "You were talking about me, well it's a good thing that I turned 23 yesterday!"
  • "Where is Primo going? I have known him for a lot of years and I have never seen him run!"
  • “I want the salami.”
  • “This hole has blind spots. Please play with caution!”
  • “What a great golf course with very good conditions.” says a first time Slammer.
  • “I didn’t need the anger management coach!” “We sure are glad that you didn’t!”
  • One last notable, but there is no more room up there. There occasionally are more opportunities to be competitive on this tour. Well on the bus, this morning, Rulz organizes a pool. Five bones to enter and the winner gets the pot. How many skins will you win? Ten Slammers entered and guessed that they would win (this many) skins on the weekend. BackFlash (2), HomeSlice (2), Lucky(3), Malone (6), RipZone (2), Rulz (4), ShortStack (3), Smitty (2), Sunny (2), and SunShine (0). Will let you know on Sunday – how they did. Of course today there were only three of them for this group.

Summary
Well, hello to all you Slammers out there in Slammer land. This is Grumpy reporting to you live from that country just south of us. Yes we are in the USA again, this time on our annual trek to Binghamton. Last trip to the US, there was a border crossing issue. It was all Cuba’s fault! This time we had the problem solved and wouldn’t let him on the bus, we had sent him south in an aMUISE-ing fashion. PizzaMan and IronMaiden stowed him in the back with their luggage and our signage (but with some Pearls also). Alas we get to the border and watch them drive right by us. We were delayed, first by a shift change and then by some random bag checking. Apparently that CUBAN embargo is still on, and NOT everybody has their cigars under the bus. We all watched as Primo ran back to Canada to destroy the little brown sh*ts and keep the American soil free of Cuban ash. We didn’t have the heart to tell them Cuba’s ass had already gotten by. No rest stop – it was going to be touch and go for that tee time (the smokers are thinking of forgiving you Primo). Corporal was concerned the most, and gets credit for the third quotable over there below on the left. So for those of you keeping score back home – the rest stop was the first casualty of this trip and the putting contest was the second (well at least today’s portion). The fine Il Primo sandwiches were distributed, and people started to smile again. The choices were ham or salami, with spicy eggplant or roasted red peppers. The fourth quote below was spoken when she said…...

Lee-Zeee
WELCOME BACK Lee-Zeee.. This long time member of EG, frequent trip traveller, new (last year) Ottawa Sun Scramble partner of SunShine, Mother to HomeSlice and Shakespeare and wife to prize sponsor AVR (Added Value Renovations), just needs to get out and Slam more often.Today marks only her 8th Slammer event. She always says that she doesn’t like the competition part of it. Ask Bob – she loves to kick his butt at golf. Well today, she shot her best Slammer Tour score ever. Starting on the fourth hole today, she went 3-0; First off she rose up 102 steps on the Slammer Ladder, when she upset Corporal to jump into 220th spot. Next upset was over Papa Malone to gain another 156 rungs and move into #64. Finally she completed the upset sweep over her Sun Scramble partner SunShine and climbed another 19 positions. Starting the day as #322 and now is at #45. Oh yeah – along the way, she had the only bird on hole four, but not being into the competition too much, chose not to go into skins. Her decision netted the other skin winners an additional 5 bones per skin. Tomorrow she will play a couple of old Slammers, that she has already beat once. Grumpy & Papa Malone will be the only Slammers to play her twice and NOT be AVR. Now go shopping on the Slammer Gear page to collect your $30 gift certificate to be used there. Congrats Lee-Zeee!
EasY B
Last year we saw Nolanator, Hitch, Rio, Dragon. ShortStack C-Mac and Fowler added to bring quite a youth movement to the Tour, Add to that the new junior tour started by KaDaver, As if there was not enough youth movement last season! Well it continues! Beware Slammers this twenty year old is promising to be back and really seems to enjoy collecting bones {hmmm - Undertaker?) Today’s second star comes from the ranks of the unknown and the unranked, He starts his ST career with a 3-0 record, playing Dad and a couple of his old buddies. Going undefeated, collecting his first ever Slammer skin (the only birdie on eleven) at his first event, and this one – he will learn matters less - Barbsy shot the low round today – and in a match play event – we all know that the score doesn’t matter. We will let you have the honour today, because that 82 tied our pro named Kevin, and beat the BIG BONE winning third star (who was playing in his 407th event, and I am willing to bet that early in his Slammer career – probably spoke about score once or twice) who shot an 83 {of course I WON'T mention it in Rulz’ write-up}. So get a nickname and let us know ASAP. Come out again and beat some other Slammers. Playing the same foursome all weekend and they all enter as unranked means that you won't move any higher (you are all NOW at 618–621). Slammer Gear page awaits you to visit and use your $20 gift certificate. Congrats rookie Slammer!
Rulz
This third star is no newcomer to the tour. He is the Founder, the President, the Commish, and we all know him as Rulz! Today we saw doggie balls marked Rulzie – what is that? You have already noticed that he was referred to as the BIG BONE winner. He had two skins with his birdies on #3 & #9. He also had the dog on #7 for a total of 94, there are new milestone awards, that began last year – did you see his new shoes? That was for 400 events. Today he starts on hole six, and his sixth par of the day happens on #1. What makes it such an important par? Well he successfully defends against Primo (5 and 4) in their inaugural challenge on that hole. Same hole he upsets Lucky (5 and 4) to move from 27th to 15th, That was their rubber match – previously they were 3-3, and will play their eighth career match on Sunday. He had to wait another hole to shake hands with Sunny (who also parred #1) to win 5 and 3. When he upset Sunny it brought their career record to 10-6-3 and a grudge match tomorrow. Congrats Rulz we all know that you need some Slammer Gear, go spend your $10 gift certificate wisely!
